We told you we were gonna get your LIVE on this conference, and we’re not liars. In addition to our live chats (click here to get further details on how those work), we’ll be doing Live Forum Events as well.
Each of these events will take place in our forum—which is how you register for the conference. Click here to go to the forum to register, if you haven’t already.
Then, once you’re in the forum, you’re welcome to get your crazy on in the appropriate areas.
During our LIVE FORUM EVENTS, though, we encourage non-crazy behavior. We encourage reading and direction-following, so you can get the most out of the forum experiences.
Each Forum Event will have a specific topic or area, from an open Question & Answer session to posting pitches/query letters for a specified amount of time.
What you’ll do:
1. Check the schedule (full schedule coming soon!) for Live Forum Events and topics (topics coming soon!).
2. Prepare your query letters/pitches/questions. We encourage you to do this in advance for the forum events you wish to attend.
3. Check the appropriate thread in the forum for further details—read and follow them carefully so our forum moderators don’t have to delete your entry.
4. Remember your manners. Please don’t engage in hurtful behavior toward an industry professional because of feedback they might leave in the forum. Remember, publishing is SO SUBJECTIVE, and these agents are donating their time to give you their experience/expertise.
Please don’t worry if you won’t be around for the Live Forum Events. Reading the feedback/answers agents give to other people can be just like getting it yourself. All of our forum events will be in the forum for your viewing pleasure long after the conference is over.
Live Forum Events Schedule (subject to change):
• Tuesday, August 16, 7:30 AM (EDT): Literary agent Steven Malk wants your questions. Leave your questions for Mr. Malk to be answered in a blog post on Thursday evening.
• Tuesday, August 16, 11 AM (EDT): Live Picture Book forum event with bestselling author Emma Walton Hamilton
• Tuesday, August 16, 5 PM (EDT): Live Q&A with literary agent Jessica Sinsheimer
• Wednesday, August 17, 11 AM (EDT): Live forum event with literary agents Carlie Webber and Christina Hogrebe
• Thursday, August 18, 10 AM (EDT): Live 250-word pitch session with literary agent Alyssa Eisner-Henkin

Sounds great! I am so looking forward to checking out the conference.
Will the queries be for the purpose of getting feedback from agents in order to get some insight into their process of evaluation, or does it count as querying that could lead to a potential request (in whcih case, the WIP had better be finished and totally polished if you’rfe going to post a query here)?
(Ack! Excuse the typos in the last post
I mean:)

The queries would be for feedback, but you’ll want to make sure your query is in tip-top shape (as much as you can make it) because our agents are looking to make requests if they feel so inclined.
Also, most agents are lenient about how long you have to send a requested MS. So yes, get ready, but don’t let it hold you back from submitting your query. I know people who’ve won contests and sent the MS months later.
Sounds so awesome. I’m really excited to catch what I can on the forums and live chats. Glad you have some early in the am too.
Thanks, Elana! The ms is definitely months away from being finished and polished, but the query has been through several pages worth of drafts at AgentQuery Connect and is basically ready. It would be good to test out the waters, then! Glad to know we have some time to finish and polish before sending any pages requested.
Miss Hamilton,
Picture books for early readers have always been included in my childrens’ books. It was always interesting what story they conveyed. When my six year old began misbehaving while my oldest daughter was expecting her first child, it was most helpful to have the child picture read from Parents Magagzine. Reassurance by my oldest corrected the problem.
My questions concern what word count is most appropriate for different age groups and should the story be written age appropriate for the early reader or at a third to fourth grade reading level? With the YA mystery, what word count is appropriate and when is adding pictures to a book inappropriate?
Thank you. Looking forward to my first on-line conference.
Hi WOC Friends: This is an amazing event. I salute you. And thank you. {}
Is it me or do I not see the Steve Malk thread in the Forum? I thought his Q & A session thread began today, Tuesday, at 7:30 AM.
I know what the problem is. Too many great things to focus on. I’m like a kid in a bookstore. I don’t know where to look first!
Thanks again,
Pamela Ross
Motivates me to write a query. Now I’ve gonna go and do it and pull my hair out as I do so.
Hi there,
It may be a little late in the game to ask, but can writers submit the first five pages of a completed MG that’s still in the editing stage? Or should it be finished (at least in the writer’s mind) before anything is submitted?
Thanks!
Rita Lorraine
