  4. My eyes were stinging by the end of this. Thank you so much for the inspiration!

  5. VERY INSPIRING!!! I have goose bumps…

  6. Wow. Thank you so much, Beth. Writers often covet an author’s success without understanding their journey. I will never do this again.

  7. Kristal Shaff says:

    Loved this.

    Thank you.

  8. Oy vey. That stack of unpublished manuscripts makes me feel a whole lot better. What an inspirational talk! I enjoyed it.

  9. Angela Russell says:

    Wow! Holy doodle. THANK YOU.

  10. Darcy Faylor says:

Thanks, Beth! That was so encouraging. A little scary, but encouraging. :-)

  11. Thank you, thank you, thank you! No one tells you when you start writing a book that you’re going to have stacks and stacks of stuff you’re never going to use. My own “stack of fail” is not as organized. It’s binders and random notebook pages and word doc after word doc. This kind of makes me want to stack it up to see how far I’ve come.

  12. NeverGrowUp says:

I watched this once. Then a second time. Then immediately bookmarked it! Thank you Beth for such an AMAZING vlog! Whenever I get frustrated I will watch this video again. You are a testament to perseverance. Congratulations on your well-earned success!

  13. Back to say…thank you for this. So inspired and not feeling more successful at writing and trying.

  14. At work, we’re not allowed to use the word “awesome”. My boss thinks (and I agree) that the word awesome is something that’s way overused, and should only be used in select circumstances. A blue whale, giving birth to a blue whale, and swimming along is the only thing that meets his definition of “awesome”.

But you know what? He hasn’t seen this. I know, because *this* is awesome.

    Thank you, Beth Revis.

  15. Wow! Thanks for sharing your story – very inspiring!

  16. Beth: YOU ARE MY NEW HERO. Your vlog totally sums up my belief:: that persistence is the biggest factor in getting published. Basically, the only surefire way NOT to get published is by giving up.

(in other words: big pile o’manuscripts, for the win!)

    =D

  17. S A Putnam says:

Thank you Beth!! Seeing that stack of manuscripts really brings the message home that persistence is the key to getting published.

  18. Natalie Aguirre says:

Awesome post Beth. Thanks for reminding us how important the practice novels and continuing to write are. Can’t wait to read your next book.

  19. Thanks, Beth. for the encouragement to suceed. You are an inspiration!

  20. Thanks for the fantastic vlog. I really needed that today! :)

  21. That was fabulous! Thanks, Beth.

  22. You made my day Beth! This is wonderful and yes, it’s worth writing, and rewriting and all that it takes.
Thanks a lot for sharing your manuscripts in the closet. Now I feel less alone :)

  23. This was amazing. Loved it. You are an inspiration for us all Beth.

  24. Totally agree….

    It is all practice.

How many hours do they say it takes to ‘master’ a craft? A lot of hours. Sure you might get lucky on your first book but it takes a lot of time to learn how to write well.

Thanks for taking the time to learn your craft well through 10 years of practice. I loved your book, and will be getting the next one as soon as i can.

    Have a fantastic day.

    Sarah

  25. This video is amazing! Absolutely made my day.

Beth, thank you so much for sharing your story of SUCCESS! Your words touched my heart. It’s stories like yours that give me the inspiration to keep working. It IS worth it (even if I don’t end up a super-star bestseller like yourself). :) Thank you so much!

  26. Your’e my superheroine! Lots of trees died to produce Across the Universe. But, you’re right. Totally worth it!
I read Carrie Ryan’s WriteOnCon piece about revising. It’s daunting, but you and she give me hope I can do it!

  27. Heidi Sinnett says:

Oh boy. That was everything I needed to hear. Thank you.

  28. So many of those “overnight success” stories are not overnight at all–the real story is that they often toiled away for many, many years before seeing rewards for all that hard work. It’s just that when someone does finally get some recognition, it seems like it’s overnight but they’re building on all that hard work and learning.

  29. *wipes tears from eyes* Thank you so much for sharing!

  30. What an encouraging video from Beth! I needed to hear this, and at the end I dabbed at the corners of my eyes. Thanks, Beth.

  31. I LOVED THIS! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us…
