Have you always wondered what agents and editors are REALLY thinking? Tune into this amazing Q&A session with literary agent Holly Root and editors Molly O’Neill and Martha Mihalick. Don’t miss this fascinating inside look at publishing!
Please note: We’ve posted this discussion in two parts due to it’s length, but believe me you’ll want to watch the entire thing. Enjoy!
P.S. Special thanks to Holly’s husband Jon Root for his mad vlog editing/moderating skills.

I live for this vlog!
Such an amazing combo of: informative comforting, and eye-opening.
What a killer way to start the day…*leaps out of bed with joy*!
Thank you for taking the time to make these vlogs. It was informative.
Thank you all for taking the time to make these vlogs. It really adds to the experience of making WriteOnCon a fantastic conference
Love this! You guys are hilarious! The package thing had me giggling like a twelve-year-old. *g*
This is truly informative. Thank you guys
Ladies, thank you so much for this! It is filled with great information and more than few insights that I didn’t know. We truly appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to put this together for us. You’ve motivated me!
That was super uplifting and realistic thank you.
How do I get my cookie? Will it be e-mailed to me?
You all seem so nice! Not scary at all. : )
Great vlog! Entertaining and informative.
Thanks!
As I said on the blogs where these were posted before the site came back up, this is amazing. I’m blown away by what you all have to offer and how warm and welcoming everyone is in the attempt to push one another to the top instead of down.
LOVE this. Thank you all for sharing your time and expertise… and for making me snort Diet Coke. “Awesome package” will live forever.
Great vlog. Lots of fun and lots of good advice. Thanks!
AWESOME vlog!
Thank you so much for your time and input, this is all really comforting to hear.
LOVED this! It’s nice to see a panel of such good people. I love the way they ended this on the perfect note: children’s publishing truly IS a generous group of people. Thanks, panel, for doing this for writeoncon.
Fabulous information and fun to watch. Thanks for putting this together for us.
Excellent vlog! Just watched it with my son. I love this conference!!
This vlog was totally delightful and informative. I loved the emphasis on story and writing, and the editor/agent/author as a team. Thanks!
I am so impressed–everyone was so well prepared and informative. Thank you so much!
Thank you
Lots of good information here. Thanks ladies.
Wisdom and inspiration, what gifts!
“Stories never will be dead.” Molly O’Niell
“The age of a novel… has a lot to do with the sensibility of the entire narrative voice.” Martha Mihalick
“Be a good person and write good books.” Holly Root
Great information! Thanks so much!
Great advice and information!!! These videos were fun to watch and I’ll definitely be forwarding them on
I second colleen. You guys aren’t scary at all! So nice and thoughtful. Thanks for the insight, and all the amazing information. I loved the part about validation. And I agree, children’s publishing is an amazing field, filled with wonderfully kind and supportive people. Thanks!
Thanks for everyone who helped make this happen. This was an informative video.
Why am I so scared of agents and editors when I query, but when I see them they seem so much like me? Weird.
You were all so sweet! Thanks for the info. I love this community, too. What a lot of great people there are out there!
I was really impressed with all the information, thank you, ladies, so much! I was very interested in your responses to writing the second book. I see nothing “easier” about it! My first novel was a contemporary novel for girls 10-12, my second was about magic with a modern twist, for girls 9-12, and my current one is an historical novel about pre-Civil War slavery, for boys 10-13.
All were so different, that I couldn’t say any one was easier than the other, so I’m sure glad the second and succeeding ones aren’t “supposed” to be easier!
Thank you so much for this! It’s so nice to get this behind-the-scenes glimpse from the pros… and it certainly helps makes the whole process much less scary and intimidating!
I love your comment about how everyday someone buys the “little book that could.” I find that thought very comforting.
I love these vlogs so hard, Holly, Molly, and Martha. Thank you SO much for vlog debuting on WriteOnCon and offering us your smarts. : ) I’ve watched them several times now.
I write in a completely different genre, but I really got a lot out of this conference and especially this Vlog. Thank you so much for your encouragement, honesty, and laughs.
Loved this vlog! It was so great to see that the three of you are so…well human:) Lol! Like someone commented earlier, your not scary at all. Ha ha! This was very informative and comforting. I laughed so loud at the awesome package part that 4 kids came running up wanting to watch whatever I thought was so funny;)
Wonderful! Comforting and informative. Thanks so much.
Thank you all for this amazing vlog! For someone who has never been to a writing conference, this is a huge help. You have no idea! It’s good to get over my fear of meeting editors and agents. Thank you!
Thanks so much! It’s wonderfu to see the soft and uplifting side of kids publishing. It really makes me to want to be there, someday
Great VLog, Thanks, Holly, Molly and Martha, and Jon for your editing. Great questions, great answers. Love it. Thank you
Thanks for that, I made excellent notes. I did notice, though, that question number 4 is missing :O There was a cut and the question was never asked.
But it was great, and I’ve learned so much. Thanks again
Y’all are just too cute! Thanks so much for your insights!
I loved this so much. Very sweet and personable ladies. And such good information! Yay!

Thanks so much for this great vlog. There’s no such thing as too much information. The more, the better. Thanks, Holly, Molly and Martha and WriteOnCon!
Thank you so much ladies for addressing some rumours in such warm way. What great literary myth-busters! It was brilliant to be able to see the differences of opinion as well as the thngs you all agree on. You obviously love your jobs and your passion is admired.
Loved it – loved your giggles, your friendship, your professionalism and your dedication. Now go eat those cookies!!

My 4 1/2 year old daughter sat on my lap while I listened and her eyes were on the cookies
