Dancing? No. We don’t think so.

We get that some writers have a weird creative process, we just didn’t know it got this weird…

Awesomeness In The Comments

As you all know, we had an epic launch to announce the writeoncon. There were prizes to be had, critiques to be (er–critiqued?), and many, many twizzlers to be eaten.

The girls all received some great comments on our blogs, and we are VERY happy to know that you guys are so excited about the conference. Don’t forget to check back on July 1 for registration!

Here are some of our favorites:

This is going to be _so_ great, lol! We can even wear pj’s.

And, I want you to know I have a _serious_ craving for twizzlers. Say, they could be the official snack.

~Deb Howls

Deb, we love twizzlers, too–but Elana might be kind of sad if bacon isn’t the official snack. Is it cool if we have two?

You guys totally rock! I am so there! Thank you for pulling this together. I’m going to start calling you guys the Spectacular Six!!!

~Jamie Grey

This is my new favorite nickname. I like it so much that I think we should change the name of the conference to “The Spectacular Six Throws a Badass Writing Conference–and It’s all Free.” That probably won’t work as a twitter hashtag, though.

Oh. My. Goodness!!!! This is so generous and awesome and… too many
things I could say! Thanks for all of your efforts toward putting this
together! Can. Not. Wait!!!!

~Marissa from Adventures in Children’s Publishing

Me either, Marissa, me either. I am so freakin’ excited about the conference that I can’t even stand it. Also, I am a huge fan. of. the. periods. in. between. words. sometimes. i. try. to. write. entire. paragraphs. like. this. just. because. i. like. to. read. the. way. it. sounds.

This is so fabulous. As somebody without the means to attend a conference, I cannot thank you guys enough for doing this!

~Sandy Shin

Thank you, Sandy. That is exactly why we’re doing this. We really do just want to pay forward all the help and good fortune we’ve all received. Without the internet, and the amazing community, none of us would be where we are today–so that’s why we want to make writeoncon a huge success.

So awesome. Just sprinted over from Shannon and E’s blogs. Oh, I think I just saw that yellow chicken crossing over to my neighbors lawn.

~Sheri Larsen

I am not going to lie, Sheri. This concerns me greatly. But, if you heed my warning to watch out for him, I think all will be okay.

Thanks guys for all the awesome comments, and congratulations to all the winners. Keep checking back for more great writeoncon updates!

~Jamie

Welcome!

Welcome to WriteOnCon—the exciting online writer’s conference for children’s writers everywhere!

The seven of us: Jamie Harrington, Elana Johnson, Casey McCormick, Shannon Messenger, Lisa and Laura Roecker, and Jen Stayrook started this project with a single goal: paying it forward. We’d all heard so many writers tell us they wished they could attend a conference, but simply didn’t have the time or money. So we decided to bring a conference to them—a free online conference that anyone could attend in the convenience of their own homes. And so, WriteOnCon was born. (Rated MC-18: for main characters 18 and under.)

The response from industry professionals has been overwhelming (check out our awesome list of presenters) and we’ll be adding more names as people confirm. In the meantime, we suggest you mark your calendar for August 10-12, and tell your friends so they can be here too. We’re working hard to make this the best conference we can, and it’s going to be—dare we say—EPIC!

Feel free to browse the site and see what we have in store. And check back regularly for updates. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by, and we look forward to seeing you August 10-12th!

An EPIC Launch!

We knew a conference as epic as WriteOnCon deserved a launch of incredible proportions. So the six of us teamed up for something we never thought we’d do: a group vlog!

(And yes, some of us had to overcome major cases of vlogging phobia for this!)

Scripts were created, hundreds of emails were exchanged, snack food was consumed in mass quantities, and the end result is…well…we’ll let you decide for yourselves…

We’re also running contests on all of our blogs and websites to help spread the word:

Jamie Harrington’s Blog
Elana Johnson’s Blog
Casey McCormick’s Blog
Shannon Messenger’s Blog
Lisa and Laura Roecker’s Blog

Make sure you check them out.

There are awesome prizes to be won!

Thanks for stopping by. And make sure you check because we will be updating this site regularly!
